How often should I feed a Cactus?
How often should I feed my cactus?
Cacti go through growing seasons. Generally speaking in the UK, a cactus will grow between March and October. Between October and March, so the colder six months of the year where natural light levels are a little lower, the cactus shouldn’t grow as much. You will only need to feed your cactus plant food during the growing months, the Summer months. There are a variety of cactus plant foods available, but we have a favourite!
What cactus plant food would you recommend?
We use Chempak Cactus and Succulent Fertiliser. It’s a granulated plant food that you mix into your water when feeding. It’s a high phosphate feed that’s perfect for Cactus and Succulents growing in small containers or house plant pots. Guidance is given on how much to mix into your water, but we would add less plant food than recommended. Too much plant food can flip the soil and make it unsafe for your cactus.
Here is the official guidance from Chempak:
How to use: Using the enclosed spoon, dissolve one level measure of fertiliser in 1 litre (approx 2 pints) of water. Feed your plants once a week during the growing season and occasionally at other times.
We have some cactus plant food for sale if you want to pick some up from us.
